Protein similarity networks are graphical representations of sequence, structural and other similarities among proteins for which pairwise all-by-all similarity connections have been calculated.
The technical term for it is homophily, or the idea that similarity fosters connection.
In the social sciences, the principle that similarity breeds connection is traditionally referred to as homophily.
Here we focus on citation networks to cast light on the salience of homophily, namely the principle that similarity breeds connection, for knowledge transfer between papers.
Our findings thus indicate that the creation of links in citation networks can be seen as governed by homophily, namely the principle that similarity breeds connection [19 22].
This is, to some extent, due to what experts call "homophily" in which similarity breeds connection, which means VCs prefer to hire, invest in, or co-invest with those that are similar to themselves.
But they did teach me this to combat intolerance we will need more than handshakes and how d'ya do's, more than similarity, conversation, connection.
As inputs to the algorithm we used matrices of matching indices [6], which express the similarity of connection patterns for each pair of vertices (Figure 1).
Recent trends in the pharmacogenomics area are going to exploit data mining and bioinformatics approaches, such as those based on drugs similarity, in connection with biological networks analysis.
The principle that "similarity breeds connection" [ 19] simplifies the process of communication, by mitigating conflicts and relationship costs and by producing relevant effects in terms of trust and solidarity [ 20, 24, 25].
Its plus side is that if used with wisdom, it promotes morals and good living, harmony through similarity and connection, peace, respect and tolerance of each other as well as sustainability.
