In this study, we report electrochemically deposited nanoporous Pt layers from K2PtCl4 containing solutions that retain significantly smaller pore dimensions than previously reported nanoporous metal structures.
Coagulation of cellulose with aqueous ethanol was confirmed to afford materials of significantly smaller pore surface area compared to that obtained with pure ethanol (Fig. 12a, b).

The key results and interpretations are as follows: (1) A pore radius value significantly smaller than dominant pore radius of the rock had to be used to reproduce the experimental results using the L-W equation, assuming cosθ = 1 and a uniform pore radius.
On the substrate we applied two plaster layers, of which the first (base) plaster layer has pores that are significantly smaller than the pores of the second (external) plaster layer.
This can be attributed to the volume expansion of the material due to HWA-induced oxidation and some pore coalescence resulting in significantly smaller surface area and pore volume.
It is known that a radius value significantly smaller than the main pore radius must be used in the equation in order for the predictions to fit the experimentally measured values.
Even considering wide variation of the contact angle, the calculated values of r = 0.35 and 0.60 μm are significantly smaller than the main pore radii of the rock, which is consistent with the findings of Dullien et al. (1977).
For effective transport, the emulsion must be stable, the oil droplets must be significantly smaller than the mean pore size of the sediment and the oil droplets should have a low to moderate tendency to stick to each other and the aquifer sediments.
