Longitudinal laminates are provided along tension side of specimens under large eccentricity loading then overlaid by transverse FRP wraps applied partially in single layer.
The experimental results show that the EMAT and ET modes of the proposed probe can detect and size both, shallow and deep cracks on the back side of specimens, respectively, which indicates that the proposed probe provides reliable evaluation of fatigue cracks within a wide range of depth values.

According to Figure 3, a special rig transferred bending load on both sides of specimen while the specimen rested on 4 mid-supports; so, it was seen that this configuration promoted crack advances near the edges (along mid-plane of adhesive layer).
All measurements were taken on the left side of each specimen, and only specimens of >30 mm SL were measured because of the difficulty of obtaining accurate lateral line scale counts for small individuals.
Four corrosion areas were used in this study: (1) the overall length of 70 cm ('A', corrosion of entire area, or 'all'), (2) half of the length ('H', corrosion of half the area), (3) 20 cm in the middle of the specimen ('C', corrosion in the center of the specimen), and (4) 20 cm on the side of the specimen ('S', corrosion on the side of the specimen).
The sides of specimens were coated with epoxy and taped with aluminum, except top and bottom surface to promote air flow into specimen.
The filled specimen carrier was covered with the flat side of another specimen carrier.
