A fewer number of transformed colonies were positive for both EGFP and mCherry (see example Fig. 3C, left side colony in bottom panels of Day21).
Further on is Rockhopper Point, where rockhopper penguins, with their funky yellow hairdos, jump up steep steps (hence their name) from the ocean to their cliff-side colonies.
To test for potential sampling effects due to within-colony variation of Symbiodinium, tissue was also collected from the sides of colonies in January (NP, Exuma Cays) and March (ADM, Upper Florida Keys) of 2004.

(Side note: Our colony is fixed and if any genitalia-sporting cats come into the colony, my former neighbor traps them and gets them fixed through the Austin Humane Society's trap-neuter-release program).
6 Briefly, 50-mL water samples were filtered through a 0.22-μm nylon membrane, transferred colony side up onto a petri dish with mFC agar containing rosolic acid, and incubated overnight at 44.5°C, and blue colonies growing on the plate were counted.
