The Show Mode Dock/Fire Tablet combo is really just the all-around better deal.
The new Show Mode Dock isn't a direct response, but it's a clever one.
The devices ship with the company's new Smart Dock, which toggles the slates into Show Mode, so they can effectively double as Echo Shows while charging.
The new slate also, naturally, has the recently introduced Show Mode, which brings an Echo Show-like experience to the product when docked.
Better still, Amazon's introducing a Show Mode Charging Dock, a stand that effectively transforms the Fire into a makeshift Show.
Now, it's adding Show Mode, which brings the same title card UI you get on the company's screen-enabled smart speaker.
The combination of hands-free Alexa and Show Mode is just another point of entry for the increasingly saturated smart home.
The stand, interestingly, is designed to essentially turn the Pixel into a makeshift smart display — similar to what Amazon's done with its Fire tablets via Show Mode.
The key to the whole thing is the addition of Show Mode to the tablet, bringing the same UI you get on the smart display.
