For example, in a country such as Malaysia, which is one of the leading countries in terms of economic growth in the south-east Asia region, there is an acute shortage of pharmacists practicing in community settings [ 17].
[ 34, 35] Studies conducted in Nigeria have also reported that there appear to be a shortage in the number of practicing dentists, [ 36] and the involvement of physicians untrained in oral health care providing dental services.
Rural areas are prone to dentist shortage as the number of practicing dentists is projected to start declining in 2014 due to mass retirement of older dentists, while dental schools are producing fewer graduates, and some dentists are not willing to practice in rural areas [ 47].
Still, coincidences like this suggest overproduction — an excess of practicing artists and a shortage of new ideas.
