In 1948 an 80-square-mile section of shore and stream-riven hills in New Brunswick was set aside as Fundy National Park.
Successfully amplified markers were tested for genetic variability in 16 individuals including 2 3 from each of the seven Okanagan Lake shore and stream-spawning localities (Fig. 1).
We generated ~750 million base pairs of sequence data corresponding to 1.3 × 10 and 1.4 × 10 reads for the shore and stream-spawning cDNA libraries, respectively, with an average length of 271 bases per read (Table 1).
A number of species of Carex, often those forms with variegated leaves, are cultivated as ornamentals in temperate gardens, especially along the shores of streams and ponds, as edgings, in rock gardens or woodland gardens, or as ground covers.
Wild rice grows naturally in shallow freshwater marshes and along the shores of streams and lakes, and the three North American species have long been an important food of Native American peoples.
Current federal farm programs provide some financing for voluntary conservation programs -- paying farmers, for example, to let fields revert to wetlands for wildlife habitat, or to let strips of grass grow along the shores of streams to prevent sediment from flowing into them.
In addition, the outliers substantially outperformed the neutral loci in 100% simulation, recovering 95.6% and 96.4% probability of occurrence of shore- and stream spawners, respectively (Table S5).
Specifically, mixed population analyses based on allelic variation at five putatively neutral microsatellite resulted in high error rates for the assignment of individuals to their respective ecotypes (i.e., 29% and 24% incorrect assignment of shore- and stream spawners, respectively; Taylor et al. 2000).
We used the Roche 454 GS FLX Titanium platform to generate transcriptome-wide sequence data for pooled cDNA libraries of shore- and stream-spawning kokanee.
Despite the improved accuracy achieved using outlier loci for IA and MC analyses, assignment accuracy still remains at unacceptably low levels at skewed proportions of shore- and stream-spawning kokanee (Table 3; Table S5).
