Application of compost significantly (P ≤ 0.05) influenced growth, dry matter and fresh shoot yield of A. cruentus.

Biological fertilizers increased dry shoot yield compared with the control.The highest percentage of essential oil (0.83%) was observed in control.
Therefore, faecal matter biochar application at a rate of 20 t ha−1 is recommended for considerable shoot yield under the conditions of these experiments.
The frequency of defoliation is the major management tool that modulates shoot yield and the accumulation of C and N root reserves in lucerne crops.

The poor fresh shoot yield response of Amaranthus cruentus to AMF augmentation either singly or in combination with compost presumes a likelihood of antagonistic effects between AMF and compost.
