A preliminary trial indicated that calculation of projected shoot areas (PSAs) using two perpendicular front views of Napier grass and Mulato II (at 0 and 90°) yield equivalent results to shoot areas estimated using three views of plants (one top view and two perpendicular front views), which in turn were positively correlated with leaf area determined destructively (r = 0.9, P< 0.01).
