On Thursday, a helicopter from the Chinese ship transferred 52 people from the Akademik Shokalskiy to the Australian vessel, the Aurora Australis.
On 17 February the ship transferred from Poti to Batumi.
There, the ship transferred the Spitfires to Eagle and embarked nine Fairey Fulmar fighters of 807 Squadron.
The ship transferred to Mutsu Bay on 25 May and then to Paramushiro on 1 June before departing the same day for the Aleutians.
Off West Africa, it said, there is a much higher boarding rate than off the coast of Somalia, partly because vessels tend to be attacked "while at anchor, drifting or conducting ship-to-ship transfers of refined products cargo".
A litany of clever tactics for cloaking commerce on the high seas has included reflagging, renaming or clandestinely acquiring ships, engaging in secretive ship-to-ship transfers to mask the origins of oil or other contraband, temporarily disabling onboard satellite transponders to hide their true locations or simply transmitting false destinations.
"Many vessels are attacked while at anchor, drifting, or conducting ship-to-ship transfers of refined cargo," said the IMB report.
"The regulations are now in force, guidance has been published and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency is handling applications for ship-to-ship transfers in line with the regulatory regime".
On Thursday, Italian Transport Minister Maurizio Lupi confirmed that the ship-to-ship transfers will take place at its southern port of Gioia Tauro, stressing they would follow international safety standards and that none of the cargo would come ashore.
