Burns' goal is to bring color's share of printed pages to 10% within three years.
Gabel is also planning a feature so that designers can turn off the print component, and also plans a possible profit share of the print sales with the Pingg Studio community.
Instead, it can seem IRL connection is scarce, and finding a physical community off the back of a shared love of print is one way to combat the Insta-exhaustion we all feel.
"They already have the lion's share of the printing market, most of which is still black and white," says Larry Jamieson, an analyst with Lyra Research, which follows the imaging and printing industry.
Librarians can share their knowledge of print and digital information to help students find and evaluate sources.
"The pie is growing bigger," said Chris Chute, senior analyst at IDC. "So while the overall volume of prints is increasing, the share of at-home printing is going down".
The printed book will not disappear, but the market share of ebook to print has grown from 5percentto30percentcent over the past few years and is projected to surpass 50percentt of all book sales within two or three more.
"They're talking a few cents per print," Mr. Yannas said, "so they could capture a big share of the home print market".
They're looked at the argument that free digital content cannibalises print – and they look at the ABC charts showing that our market share of paid-for print sales is growing, not shrinking, despite pushing aggressively ahead on digital.
