An analytical model has been developed that, under a set of simplifying assumptions, can provide a rapid estimate of the shape and extent of a plume of CO2 injected into an aquifer.
For releases of hydrocarbons from a subsea pipeline, riser, or production facility, the shape of the plume rising through the water must be predicted prior to any assessment of gas dispersion, liquid pools, or fire above the water surface.
These simulation results, such as the height and shape of the plume, agree well with observations based on satellite images and weather radar echo measurements.
Results show that loose clothing increases the volume flux by 24%, changes the shape of the plume and thus should be carefully simulated.
