On the other hand, the closure of the old Cottesloe (now re-opened as the Dorfman) and the opening of the Shed (now called the Temporary Space) may have seemed like a loss to some regular National Theatre audiences, but also created a whole new audience through a more relaxed vibe and programming that reflects contemporary theatre trends.

SH: Right now there's a vogue for artist-run galleries.

The Shed is now envisioned as a place for artists to create new work — Ms. Diller recalled how when she was starting out New York was still "a place of production," and lamented that it had become "a place for consumption" — but it sits in an area that, as much as any, has come to symbolize the soaring rents that have priced artists out of the city.
I remember having mixed feelings of absolute joy mixed with an undercurrent of "holy sh--, nowewe actually have to do this!" This is not to oversimplify the scene.
