It cannot be applied to situations when the response options there is no clear gradient in the severity of limitation or impairment associated with the items.
Therefore, one can assume that the limitations in functioning suffered by the patients included in this study do not represent the whole spectrum of severity of limitation in functioning of patients suffering from chronic conditions.
