The biological function of cyclotides appears to be a defense against herbivores, based on observations that cyclotides modulate the growth and development of several invertebrate animals, such as insects [62,63], molluscs [64] and nematodes [65].
However, these estimates are in line with numerous other studies that have identified pre-Pleistocene diversification in African TRFs, such as in Afromomum [ 55], an estimated 60% of Begonia species [ 56] as well as in several animal clades such as African birds [ 57] and African clawed frogs species [ 58].
Several animal models, such as the experimental model of colitis in rats, atherosclerosis in the rabbit model and atherosclerotic plaques, in mice, have been evaluated with VCAM-1 targeting imaging agents [13 15].
Several animal models, such as the arthritis and gout model in pigs, proved that specific uptake of 111In-labeled anti-E-selectin mAb occurs in the inflamed tissue [6, 7].
To evaluate plague vaccines, several animal models, such as mice, guinea pigs, rabbits [4] and cynomolgus macaques [5], have been used to determine protective efficacy against Y. pestis challenge and antibody responses to plague vaccines.
Indeed, recent reports have demonstrated the presence of CYP450 gene products in a cardiomyoblast cell line [2], in cultured rat cardiomyocytes [3], in the heart of several animal species such as rat [4], [5], rabbit [6], fish [7], sheep [8] and pig [9] and more importantly, in samples of a few explanted human hearts [10], [11], [12].
Despite similarities of the neuronal changes in TGR rat with several animal models such as the rd/rd, rds mouse and Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) rat, and reported vascular alterations, specific differences exist regarding the onset and developmental dynamics of the photoreceptor death.
The beneficial effects of BBR were demonstrated in several animal models such as SHR, HFD rats, pressure-overload HF, and myocardial ischemia [ 187, 192– 194].
In addition, our data verified once again that – unlike protein G – protein A shows lower binding to IgGs from several animal species such as goat [37].
In particular, the motif is not detected in several animal sequences, such as zebrafish (DrerAAH654), nor in the limited number of stramenopile sequences available (Fig. 2).
