If travel pieces become slavish gloss, then no one's interests are ultimately served: the reader loses faith, the newspaper loses a reader and the travel company loses a customer.

We considered journalism in medicine to encompass a broad mission that includes educational, public health, and strategic goals such as timeliness, serving the readers' interests, presenting important medical issues, and addressing controversies.
It therefore serves the reader with a tool to understand this special issue as a whole.
But does it also serve the reader who has no economics at all?
But how does it serve the reader, the citizen, and our democracy?
