This chapter discusses the major semantic choices made by the UML and shows how one can illustrate a scenario during the execution of a UML model by means of a collaboration or sequence diagram.
Extension here is used as a functional label representing combinations of semantic choices in the system of PHASE.
In this chapter we have explained how R> views text, and therefore the lexical, grammatical and semantic choices which constitute it, as both encoding and construing the different layers of context in which the text was enacted.
His theory is substantially the same in all these works, but in the two commentaries he stresses the ontological implications of his semantic choices slightly more, and modifies his solution of the question of the meaning of a true negative sentence.

Before naming an odor, probands had to decide whether it matched the 7 attributes pleasant (hedonic judgement), sweet & hot (gustatory judgement), technical, natural, edible and dangerous (semantic judgement) (forced choice: 'yes' or 'no' answer; odor interpretation; same set of odors as for naming).
Thus, the semantic and syntactic choices one makes in order to communicate serve to manifest their positioning and are based on the belief that one organises their discourse in line with how they perceive a situation and the meanings they wish to convey (Halliday and Matthiessen 2014: 217).
It should be clear from what has been said above that the choice of semantic "tool" will depend on the computational goals of the practitioner.
In the same vein, our choice of semantic analysis and comprehensive interpretation based on the interpretative paradigm suffers from similar reservations.
By contrast, when the features 'multiple' and 'public' are co-selected, the difference is not so much in the modality of access as in the meaning-wording of the message (i.e., in semantic contact); with the choice public the social distance between the speaker and the distant receiver is likely to be 'somewhat'distantnt' (c.f., Figure 7).
