At the time of this research, 180 (95 %) of the respondent ICU survivors had a self-sufficient current living situation, which included self-sufficiency with home- and/or informal care.
"I became more self-sufficient after the situation with Warners," he says now. "I got the experience and I got the know-how to be able to run my business and do it the right way and really be proud of it and happy with it.
Despite this rich experience, there has been remarkably little systematic effort to learn lessons on how outside powers can assist in the building of strong and self-sufficient states in post-conflict situations.
The billions of dollars in the bailout program may not be targeted to meet the needs of this vulnerable population who worked hard to be self-sufficient and never dreamed of this situation for their golden years.
Men, he says, tend to be confident in their ability to be self-sufficient, regardless of how dire their immediate post-divorce situation may be.
