WESTPORT -- "Selected Shorts," live version of the National Public Radio show.
At the Rome, we feasted on Flash Gordon on the planet Mongo, other serials, a batch of cartoons, previews of coming attractions, a cowboy picture, "selected shorts" and a main feature.
Other events featuring the famous include Art Loves Film, at which the journalist Bob Colacello will interview Dennis Hopper at the Colony Theater; the inauguration of the Sagamore Hotel's new video lounge with selected shorts by Yoko Ono; and a closing reception, displaying works by artists including Dale Chihuly and Sol LeWitt, at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
The film and selected shorts will also be screening at Harmony Gold on Saturday after a matinee performance of the Diyar Dance Theatre.
"SELECTED SHORTS" The series featuring actors reading short stories gets under way for the season with an appearance by Stephen King, who will host an evening of material from "The Best American Short Stories 2007," which he guest-edited.
"SELECTED SHORTS" The actress Rita Wolf reads from Jhumpa Lahiri's second short-story collection, "Unaccustomed Earth".
But Selected Shorts also travels live, like a road show.
"Isaiah could make anybody do anything," said the actress Blair Brown, who frequently reads at Selected Shorts.
Isaiah Sheffer's "Selected Shorts," a public-radio favorite, celebrated a quarter century on the air last year.
Panoply also picked up Selected Shorts, the long-running and award-winning series that features actors and other celebrities reading short works of fiction.
