Segregation between environments offers a tangible boundary that accounts for attacks, unintended consequences, and disasters, but it is only part of a solution.
Wielgus and Bunnell [17], [18] showed that male-biased sex ratios were associated with female avoidance of potentially infanticidal males and sexual segregation of females into food-poor environments; the result was smaller litter sizes than would otherwise be the case [19].
