Initiation of the channel complex, which forms part of a seismic-scale channel complex set, is marked by a basal erosion surface interpreted to have been carved by multi-event erosive sediment gravity flows, which bypassed sediment down dip farther into the basin.
The well correlation panel (north south, i.e., down-dip) shows that at the shallow and intermediate intervals, there appears to be a thickening of sediment packages toward the south (i.e., as the delta prograded distally) except in reservoir A5, where there is a thinning of sediments down-dip (Figs. 3, 4 and 5).
The foredune ridges consist of very well to well sorted fine- to medium-grained aeolian sand and are underlain by seaward dipping foreshore sediments.
On the other hand, there is thinning of sediments from south north (up-dip) and thickening of sand packages at the central part where there is displacement of some correlatable reservoirs at depth.
Bypass drapes and deposition drapes are interpreted to result from flow bypass and flow stratification, respectively, and have significantly different implications for reservoir connectivity and down-dip sediment transport.
In contrast, the trench-slope cover sediments basically have a homoclinal dip, except at the northern rim where they are bounded by fault contact.
Reflectors within the sediments show a distinct northward dip throughout the shelf.
Deposits at Auger Field are contained within point-sourced submarine fans deposited in healed slope accommodation in the more proximal portion of the basin on the flank of a paleo-bathymetric ridge, immediately down depositional dip of a sediment spill point from an inboard basin.
However, because the Northampton Sands share in the regional dip of all the sediments of this part of Britain to the east-south-east, they become increasingly difficult to work as one progresses east across the county.
This style is usually created in the areas of steep dips and large supply sediments and in areas where the discharge of the river fluctuates daily or annually (Walker 1984).
