WASHINGTON (AP) — The Transportation Security Administration on Thursday dropped the subpoenas it had issued to two Internet writers in its effort to learn who leaked an airline security directive.
Special agents from the agency served subpoenas to two bloggers who write about travel, Steve Frischling and Chris Elliott, demanding that they reveal who leaked the security directive to them.
The intelligence was good enough to warrant the dissemination of an F.A.A. Security Directive, and the C.I.A., working with German police, planned a series of successful preëmptive raids.
"To get the airlines to react, you have to send a Security Directive" — a high-priority message that, under F.A.A. regulations, mandates an immediate response.
Officials at Massport, which oversees the Boston airport, said in a statement that security measures would "exceed the new security directive" issued by the Federal Aviation Administration after Tuesday's attacks.
