Assistant Commissioner Chris Allison, head of Scotland Yard's security operation, said: "Delivering a safe and secure Games is a priority but we will not compromise on keeping the streets and our local communities safe".
The total number of military personnel involved in Olympics security is now more than 18,000, including 11,000 helping secure Games venues, with the rest working in specialist roles.
"The government of Canada and its partners have a comprehensive approach to security planning and we are on track to host a secure Games," Peter Van Loan, the federal public safety minister, said in a statement.
"The government continues to have every confidence that we will deliver a safe and secure Games".
"We have a commitment to deliver a safe and secure Games and we will do so.
So I think we should be confident we're going to have a secure Games".
Hogan-Howe said: "Tanja, I am confident that we will deliver a safe and secure Games.
It will do whatever it takes to deliver a safe and secure games.
"And the answer would be real performance: I think the Games were a successful and a secure Games," he added.
