For the present case, the Fuke radar multi-beam measurements rule out the latter possibility because no tilted structure was detected in the fan sector maps (which will be shown in Fig. 2).
By steering the radar beam in 16 directions perpendicular to the geomagnetic fields, 3-m scale FAIs are observed in a fan-shaped range azimuth sector (fan sector) map that covers 600 km in the zonal direction at an altitude of 450 km (Fukao et al. 2004) approximately every 2 min.
