The backbone of innovation in Australia today is our highly innovative public sector, comprised of the university sector and scientific research agencies such as the CSIRO.
We leave behind talk of an independent sector, comprised of nonprofit and philanthropic entities, and we instead discuss a broader social economy, consisting of these entities in addition to social enterprises, public-private partnerships, for-profit foundations, and entirely new organizational forms such as benefit corporations.
In my next post on this topic I will write about the Renewable Resources & Alternative Energy sector comprised of biofuels (30.8), solar energy (38.2), wind energy (18.3), fuel cells & industrial batteries (17.0), forestry and logging (14.3), and puldp an paper products (24.4).
There is substantial variation in this sector comprised of eight industries: Agricultural Products (49.0); Food Retailers & Distributors (46.8); Meat, Poultry, & Dairy (45.3); Restaurants (39.4); Processed Foods (36.2); Non-alcoholic Beverages (32.0); Alcoholic Beverages (31.5); and Tobacco (7.9) [one of the lowest of all 79 industries].

The 'other' sector comprised of activities such as being a traditional healer or receiving remittances.
The private health sub-sector comprises of for-profit and not-for-profit health-care institutions.
The private health sector comprises of the Private-Not-for-Profit organizations (largely faith-based organizations), Private Health Practitioners (or Private for Profit health providers) and the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Practitioners.
The survey was done in Mbota, a neighborhood composed of 4 sectors, comprising 9.5% of the city population.
Traditional sectors comprising owners of factors employed in the primary sector, on the other hand, supported free trade policies.
