Advocacy networks are made up primarily of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) but may also include individuals or groups from the public or private sector, foundations, academia, and the media.
"The role of the private sector, foundations and other emerging partners becomes quite critical to bridge the gap … We are proposing blended finance, a combination of ODA with private sector engagement," he said.
These goals promote the cooperation between the private sector, foundations, international organizations, civil society, and research organizations.
At the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Review Summit in New York Sept. 20-22, 2010, heads of state are joining leaders from the private sector, foundations, and civil society to commit to an action agenda to achieve the MDGs by 2015.
The Private Sector Foundations, businesses, and social enterprises have responded to the President's call to action, committing more than $500 million in grants and in-kind resources and $1 billion in financing through community banks, including investments in safe and effective schools, mentoring programs, juvenile justice reforms, and school redesign.
UNICEF partners include governments, other UN agencies, civil society organizations (CSOs), the corporate sector, foundations, academic institutions, the media and children and youth organizations.
The polio eradication coalition includes governments of countries affected by polio; private sector foundations (United Nations Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation); development banks (World Bank); bilateral donor governments; the European Commission; the International Red Cross and Red Crescent societies and nongovernmental organizations as well as corporate partners.
Development progress and challenges Veneman also highlighted that the aid environment continues to change, with the private sector, foundations and countries that are not part of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development increasingly engaged in international assistance.
While maintaining a principal role in working in support of governments, UNICEF collaborates with other UN agencies, global public partnerships, donors, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, foundations, research institutes, universities and civil society organizations to advocate for policy change and deliver essential services to children.
"I don't think people who want to assume national leadership should be signaling that they're willing to talk down our economy and speculate on recessions without substantial private-sector foundation because it's convenient for a political objective," Gene Sperling, the director of the National Economic Council, said in an interview this week.
