Your Aug. 4 editorial "Closer Scrutiny of For-Profit Schools" maligns a critical component of postsecondary education in the United States, private sector colleges and universities.
In a press release on July 29 responding to the report, The Association of Private Sector College and Universities (APSCU) stated, "The report twists the facts to fit a narrative, proving that this is nothing more than continued political attacks on private sector colleges and universities".
Last Wednesday, Obama announced an effort by the private sector, colleges and the National Association of Manufacturers to help half a million community college students become trained and certified for manufacturing jobs.
The association for these schools, America's Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU), brought in elite Democratic and Republican Party operatives to teach them how to intimidate candidates for federal office into supporting them.
He argued in a statement that the investigation "fails to acknowledge the important role private sector colleges and universities have in educating non-traditional students to compete for jobs in a very difficult economic environment".
So when the for-profit college companies' trade association, APSCU, meets in Washington next week for its annual lobby day, whom has the group selected to speak to its members on the subject of "Crafting the Positive Impact Proposition of Private Sector Colleges and Universities"?
The Harkin Report Backgrounder that the APSCU distributed with its press release stressed that the private sector colleges and universities "... can open doors to many of the 13 million unemployed and 90 million underemployed by providing a skills-based education" and that these institutions "...offer predominantly non-traditional students a means to improve their financial situation... ..
"This lawsuit is necessary in order to protect 3.8 million students who attend private sector colleges and universities today and those who will attend our schools in the future," Brian Moran, the group's interim president and chief executive, said in a statement.
Within the medical sector, colleges of medicine have got the lion's share (33 projects for 14 colleges) [ 15].
Applicants for medical sector colleges always have the highest marks among high school graduates, as these colleges admit relatively limited numbers of students in comparison to other sectors.
