The adopted indicator for the dispersion of groups is the one introduced in Section "Group dispersion metrics", that is, the area actually occupied by the group, computed as shown in Section "Group dispersion metrics".
Altogether, 924 persons gave valid answers to all questions in Table 1 and were classified into three groups (following the procedure described in the method section): Group 1 consists of 311 members, Group 2 with 316 members and group 3 with 297 members.

There were 2 deaths in this group and none in the elective caesarean section group and all fetal parameters were poorer: more Apgar<7 at 5 min (RR: relative risk=3.05; 1.03–9.05), arterial pH<7.15 (RR=1.64; 1.11–2.43), intubations (RR=7.35; 2.10–25.6), neurological disorders, trauma (RR=4.24; 1.66–10.8), transfer to intensive care units (RR=3.23; 1.57–6.64).
The levels of plasma sFlt-1 were 3 times higher in the pre-delivery samples of pre-eclamptic women(24.3 (7.6 77) ng/ml) in the Caesarean section group compared to normal pregnancy pre-delivery values of 7.9 (2.1–16.8) ng/ml (p<0.001).
The plasma levels of activin A in the Caesarean section group are shown in Fig 1C and D. The levels of activin A in pre-eclamptic women were significantly higher in pre-delivery samples compared to normal pregnant (25 7.3 29.2) ng/ml vs 8.3 (4.2–23.4); p<0.01 respectively).
Furthermore, the pre-delivery levels in women with pre-eclampsia in the Caesarean section group at 34 weeks were 24.3 (7.6 77) ng/ml compared to the levels of 10.1 (0.6 45) ng/ml in the pre-eclamptic women of the labour group who were 37 weeks gestation (p = 0.004).
The women in the caesarean section group were matched with those who delivered vaginally.
A dichotomy was observed between women in the emergency caesarean section group and the others.
No infant in the cesarean section group required supplemental oxygen or bag and mask ventilation.
These patients were all in the caesarean section group and were given blood transfusions.
