What makes the battle even more difficult is that customers frequently make buying decisions based on second-hand perceptions.
As someone who supports a long term commitment to Afghanistan, I've realized that the most I can do to improve the critical public debate is to organize and relay their first-hand perceptions.

As I see the second hand in one position, I have in my short-term memory an image (or information in some form) of its immediately previous position, and this image affects my current perception.
