Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing is widely used in conjunction with Papanicolaou (Pap) testing in cervical cancer screening programs to improve the detection of high-grade lesions.
Screening has largely relied on cytology-based tests; however, given their subjective nature as well as low sensitivity and specificity, adding HPV DNA testing to screening programs to improve their efficacy has been proposed [ 7– 9].
