When the Susan G. Komen Foundation cut off Planned Parenthood from breast cancer screening grants, it assured the press and angry donors that the decision was not political.
Susan G. Komen made headlines in 2012 when it stopped providing breast cancer screening grants to Planned Parenthood at the direction of Karen Handel, a former executive at the charity who opposed legal abortion.
Komen has been struggling to repair its reputation since the public backlash over its decision, at the beginning of February, to pull cancer screening grants from Planned Parenthood because some of its clinics perform abortions.
