These factors (school, productivity and injury history) help G.M.s support their decisions, but sometimes they can err on the side of covering their backsides rather than selecting a better talent with some risk.
The combination of these two concepts has naturally led parts of the research agenda to focus on the concept of school productivity.
This is consistent with the lack of a systematic private school advantage referenced above, and additionally suggests that the introduction of competition may not by itself have a large impact on public school productivity.
