"Lessons for Failing Schools" (editorial, July 6) rightly points out that too many charter schools are no better than district schools with which they compete, and some are worse.
"Grading the Mayor on Schools" (editorial, Feb. 9) doesn't portray the reality of school reform and social promotion policy in New York City.
I agree that the proposal by the American Federation of Teachers to add a fifth year to high school is inadequate ("Recipe for Weaker Schools," editorial, July 7).
Francis X . Cliness observations about the effectiveness of charter schools (Editorial Observer, June 3) only touch on the problems of "no child left behind".
"Proselytizing in the Schools" (editorial, June 12) suggests that there is an inconsistency between the Supreme Court's decision last year prohibiting school-sanctioned prayer at football games and its decision this week forbidding schools from banning religiously inspired meetings after school.
"Lessons for Failing Schools" (editorial, July 6) says Education Secretary Arne Duncan, with a $100 billion educational stimulus fund at his disposal, is right to focus on transforming 5,000 low-performing schools that account for the majority of minority dropouts.
In "Mayoral Control of the Schools" (editorial, Dec. 18), you say that Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani "got it right" when he said, "If you were running a business, you would invent this system if you didn't want it to be successful".
And they could have, since the Office of Inspector General's (OIG) report on the issue was publicized on September 29 , 2016 two weeks prior to the NYT's pro-charter-school editorial.
