"school abandonment" is a grammatically correct and commonly used phrase in written English.
It refers to the act of leaving or dropping out of school before completing one's education. By contrast, Italy and Portugal, the two other EU15 countries with very high incidence of school abandonment, improved their rates between 1997 and 2007.
