"Kids assume that what they see on TV they can find on the Web, because it's just as much a part of their life," says Deborah Forte, president of Scholastic 's Scholastic Entertainment unit, which encompasses the company's film, TV and consumer products.
Mr. Moss, 32, is the general manager of the after-school products and services unit of Scholastic Inc., the educational publisher in New York.
"We'd like to do it as often as advertisers would like to do it," said Risa Crandall, vice president for the Scholastic Parents Media unit of Scholastic in New York.
With new rent increases, "we could not run the bookstore in a profitable way," said Teresa Mlawer, president of Lectorum Publications, a Spanish-language publishing and distribution unit of Scholastic Inc. that also owns the bookstore.
Developed by Scholastic, the curriculum uses themed learning units that incorporate reading, writing, math, science, social studies and more".
For instance, the division, known as Scholastic In School, teamed up with the Lexus unit of Toyota Motor for the Lexus Eco Challenge, a curriculum meant to teach teenagers about the environment.
The InSchool unit accounts for less than 1 percent of Scholastic's $2 billion in revenues, and fewer than two dozen of its 10,000 employees.
According to Richard Robinson, Scholastic's chairman and chief executive, the bookstore represents less than 10percentt of the Lectorum unit's revenues.
Clauset and co-authors reported on the conclusions they drew from "complete and hand-curated data on the placements of nearly 19,000 tenure-track or tenured faculty, among 461 North American departmental or school-level academic units, in the disciplines of computer science, business, and history[, which] … represent highly distinct scholastic traditions".
The figure also shows that with the exception of scholastic competence scores and the behavioral conduct scores among the normal-weight children, all the other scores were below the 2.80 unit.
