The record notes that at a particular time a certain scanner number read the card of a particular student and deducts one meal from that student's meal count for the week.
When the cashier scans the card, it is electronically recorded that at that particular time, a particular scanner number read the campus card of that student, and the cost of the meal is debited from her account.
