The connections between black Americans and Africa — the very notion of the identity conferred by the term African-American — is the subject of "Les Écailles" (the title is translated as "The Scales of Memory").
"Amjad" was followed, at the Next Wave Festival, by "Les Écailles de la Mémoire" ("The Scales of Memory"), a collaboration between an all-female Brooklyn company, Urban Bush Women, and an all-male Senegalese group, Compagnie Jant-Bi.
