Nasal colonization was statistically significant and associated with the type of care (NH vs. RHs), the presence of bladder catheter, urinary incontinence, dysphagia or gastric feeding tube, age, length of stay, Barthel scale and limited mobility.
Primary outcome variables were amount of pain in the shoulder/arm recorded on the Visual Analogue Scale, and shoulder mobility (flexion, abduction) measured using a digital inclinometer under standardized conditions.
Concerning the second criteria, the Barthel-Index (a measure of activities of daily living), it was significantly correlated with the scales "communication" and "mobility" of our instrument.
To determine the most appropriate measure of mobility, three measures were trialled; the Timed Up and Go, the Elderly Mobility Scale and the de Morton Mobility Index.
Analyses were undertaken across the scales for each profession, and since sample sizes permitted, for the physiotherapy scales: Balance and Postural Control, Musculoskeletal and Neurological, and for the occupational therapy scales: Functional Walking and Mobility, Upper Limb Use, and Self-care.
Prior to this, descriptions (e.g. mild, moderate, and severe) and scales for mobility and gross motor function were used to describe the child's level of disability [ 11, 12].
Functioning has been measured by five indexes: 'The Social Roles and Mobility' scale (SORM), 'The Self-Care Restrictions' scale (SCR), 'The Serious Limitations' scale (SL), 'The Minor Limitationsimitationscaleale (MSCR) and 'The Minor Limitations in Social Roles and Mobility' scale (MSORM).
Therefore the three corresponding scales represent 'the serious limitations scale' (SL), 'the minor self-care limitations scale' (MSCR) and 'the minor limitations in social roles and mobility scale' (MSORM).
