A jolting, fitful mashup of FM synths, sampled news reports, and trash rock riffs, it feels like sitting in the backseat of a taxi while the driver compulsively twitches the radio dial in some apocalyptic alternative 90s where the LA Riots never ended.
So while we are treated to marvelous and rare footage of the Clash in rehearsal and Mr. Strummer's previous bands in performance, we also sample news video and snippets of the cartoon version of "Animal Farm".
But coverage of crises can burnish reputations, as the networks attract worried viewers who sample news and stock-picking shows for the first time — or at least for the first time in a long while.
According to 4thEstate.net, which collects and analyzes data from a sampling of news stories from U.S. national print outlets, TV broadcast and radio transcripts covering the 2012 election, a gender gap exists in U.S. media, and its excruciatingly wide.
In short, news sampled this way is an also-ran.
We've sampled several other news alert services, including those from AOL Time Warner 's CNN.com, The Walt Disney Co. 's ABCNews.com and Viacom 's CBSNews.com and found them all to be significantly behind the other two in terms of time, consistency and depth.
The researchers sampled 1,800 items of news including news reports, photos, feature stories, editorials and TV coverage from three leading Thai language newspapers for 182 days and three TV stations for 48 days in 2012.
