Nipple aspirate fluid (NAF) from symptomatic women could potentially serve as a minimally invasive sample for breast cancer screening by detecting somatic mutations in this biofluid.
Although inter-rater agreement is typically high for histologic diagnosis [ 23– 26], the rate of inadequate samples is a limitation of CNB as a sampling technique for breast cancer diagnosis [ 7, 8, 23, 24, 27].
The inflation test statistic we used was based on the inflation seen in genomic control samples for the breast cancer study and was chosen to be slightly higher than the estimated inflation as a "conservative" correction.
We obtained blood samples from 1322 and archived tissue samples for 247 breast cancer patients (87% of all selected).
In a common, multivariable-adjusted model (Table 3) (adjusted for age group, smoking, drinking and menopausal status) for the NHANES sample, odds for breast cancer were significant and elevated for the third UCd quartile (OR=2.50; 95% CI=1.11, 5.63; p=0.028) and marginally significant for the fourth quartile (OR=2.22; 95% CI=0.89, 5.52; p=0.086).
The relevance of RPPA data for multi-OMICS and high-throughput projects is also highlighted by its inclusion into the Cancer Genome Atlas, where, for instance, measurements of 171 antibodies for >400 samples of breast cancer patients are available (Atlas, 2012).
For example, with the objective of achieving consistent conditions between different hospitals, a guideline for the collection of blood samples for a breast-cancer clinical trial recommended completing the process, from phlebotomy to storage of the samples in a freezer, within 8 h [ 24].
Gene Regulatory Network (GRN) inferred from differential gene expression profiling in 1191 whole genome expression experiments for biopsy samples from breast cancer patients/controls (Baca-López et al. 2012).
Each woman will be instructed to collect 24-hour samples of breast milk for the day prior to beginning treatment and then each day for the two-week period.
