The phrase "sample of only" is not correct and sounds awkward in written English
It may be intended to specify a sample that is limited to a certain criterion, but it lacks clarity.
Example: "The study included a sample of only participants who met the age requirement."
Alternatives: "sample consisting solely of" or "sample limited to"
It must be noted that the sample – of only 44 young people – specifically incorporated those with a high risk of the mutation based on their family history, and so can't be extrapolated to the general population.
