MADRID -- Jos?anuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, on Tuesday closed a meeting here between European and Latin American leaders by saluting the fact that Spain, the host nation, had made "every effort for this success".
In an article for CNN he writes: "In addition to the vast majority of Americans who are relieved by his death, there are more than 1 billion Muslims around the world who salute the fact that Bin Laden's ungodly terrorist mischief has finally come to an end".
Some salute the fact that Oakland's murder rate is down from last year at this point without recognizing that many have been infected with a seductive agent that numbs them to senseless violence and leads to glancing attention at best to the news of a murder -- as long as it does not occur in their backyard.
It ended with an audience question that brought the house down — Why was Rawls in that gay bar? — and a salute to the fact that it was never explained.
