The word "salam" is correct and usable in written English as it is a recognized loanword from Arabic.
"Salam" is a common greeting in the Muslim community, similar to saying "hello" or "peace be upon you." It can also be used as a farewell, meaning "peace be with you." Example: As a form of respect, I greeted the mosque's imam with a warm "salam" before entering for the prayer service.
