"Maybe they think Tyra Banks should have been wearing pink instead of black," he said of a recent cover model.
"It was the first one-price shop on the high street in a prime position," he says of a business model inspired by the cardboard box on the family stall with damaged goods that were sold off for 10p.
"THIS car is like sushi," a Ford designer, Laurens van den Acker, said of the Model U, a futuristic design study he worked on.
"It's really an honor," Post said of being a role model for young female BMX riders.
She was tired, she said, of being a "glamour model," of posing in her bikini on the beach while men ogled her.
KermlinRussia, she said, "is a model of a civil-society entity, an example of one, but it is extremely isolated".
"Greenwich," Mr. Newman said, "is a model of how small cities and towns can reinvent themselves.
The Texas designers entered the competition as their "way of helping," said Scott Philo, a model maker at Coleman and Associates, the Houston company that constructed the designers' models.
"What I like about muscle cars is how absurd they are," he said, holding a model of a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass SX, which he was considering for a new image.
"I always said MSHA was a model of freedom of information," said Ellen Smith, the managing editor of the well-respected Mine Safety and Health News newsletter.
