During the fatigue sessions, participants performed an advanced trail making test [ 26, 27] for 45 min, a kana pick-out test [ 28] for 30 min, and a mirror drawing test [ 29] for 45 min. Beginning at 10 15 a.m., four rotations of this series of tasks were performed for a total of 8 hr of mental fatigue-inducing activities.
During ego-rotation and object-rotation tasks, involving the creation of a mental image of an object and its subsequent rotation, MDD patients exhibited specific deficits compared to controls [ 64].
To sum up, we have presented the first systematic assessment of suitability of mental rotation tasks using body parts as targets to assess individual differences in motor imagery.
Our findings suggest that the development of mental rotation tasks that involve the major components of a physical activity allows and is necessary for specifying the links between this activity and the mental rotation performance.
Models of mental rotation tasks assume that performance can be partitioned into subprocesses that are related to mental rotation proper and processes related to peripheral processes, such as visual encoding, response generation, and decision making [ 2].
In order to specify the functional role of M1 in mental rotation, a study from our lab used single pulse TMS applied over the left M1 hand area during several tasks: mental rotation of Shepard & Metzler figures, reading aloud, reading silently and simple mirrored-not-mirrored judgements with Shepard & Metzler figures [ 17].
