In both of our monkeys about half of the FEF gaze-velocity neurons responded vigorously to neck rotation when it was delivered by rotating the body beneath a fixed head but much more weakly when such rotation occurred as part of forced rotation of the head on the trunk (Fig. 8 B – C, H ).
On the morning of the accident, an effect called "joint rotation" occurred, which prevented the rings from resealing and opened a path for hot exhaust gas to escape from inside the booster.
We suggest that the clockwise rotation occurred after the deposition of the Akeyo Formation (i.e., after 17.5 Ma).
