Another Amazon list, "Sports Romance Novels — List No. 2," by C. Brigden, reveals not only that a genre called sports romance exists but also that it has star authors, standout titles and unmistakable hallmarks (female readers, covers that highlight the abs of men, characters with names like Sloan and Brek).
In the world of B.L., by contrast, romance can exist free of baggage.
That line rings devastatingly true in Todd Hayne's new film Carol, which is actually about two women in love with one another, ostracized by a society that seems archaic today, attempting, at times futilely, to conjure up a world in which their high-voltage romance can exist.
And where meditation exists, can romance be far behind?

That Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue are real people with a real human relationship who happen to embody or at least happen to have projected upon them every unrealistic trope of Hollywood romance muddies the water considerably for the rest of us, who occasionally found solace in the widely accepted fact that Hollywood romance doesn't exist in real life.
