Although the resilin is bent into a complex shape, the example given shows the calculation as a straight rod of area A and length.
By the penetration of mesoporous silica template with pure ANT, followed by the stabilization, carbonization and removal of the template, we obtained highly ordered mesoporous carbon rods (specific area 408 m2 g−1).
As expected, for the advanced position of the hydraulic cylinder piston rod, the areas of highest stress concentration are located in the piston rod and in the supporting cables while for the retracted position maximum stress is located in the cables.

A similar process could influence horse colour vision even more than it does for us since horses do not have a rod-free area in the retina as we do in the centre of our fovea.
The fretting wear is found to be generated at grid-to-rod contact areas by flow-induced vibration.
Following ref. 63, which provides a conversion from cd/m2 to photoreceptor-equivalent photons/µm2 for mouse, and adjusting for pupil size as in [67] (Figs. 2 and 3), these intensities cover the same range as those used in the recording chamber: 1640 rod-equivalent-photons/µm2/s (0.5 mm2 pupil area), 350 rod-equivalent-photons/µm2/s (fully dilated pupil) to <0.1 rod-equivalent-photons/µm2/s.
Unanticipated however, was the marked increase in rod terminal surface area, which would require >200,000 vesicles fusing with the plasma membrane to compensate for the loss in the spherule's volume.
Based on these findings, we conclude that vesicle exocytosis a) accounts principally for the increase in the number of fully fused vesicles, and b) contributes to the synchronized expansion of the rod terminal surface area and the decrease in the volume of the rod spherule during the short duration dark conditions.
On activation, the rod struck an area of the skin measuring 1.8 mm with a momentum of approximately 3 4 g ⋅ m/s.
