We applaud your editorial board ("Getting Preschool Education Right," editorial, Feb. 16) and David Brooks ("When Families Fail," column, Feb. 15) for calls to carefully consider President Obama's proposal to expand quality early care and education.

You are correct that Judge Vaughn R. Walker's argument against California's ban on gay marriage "is a stirring and eloquently reasoned denunciation of all forms of irrational discrimination" ("Marriage Is a Constitutional Right," editorial, Aug. 5).

The emphasis on research into the conduct and reporting of clinical trials may cost the book some anecdotal colour, but I think this was the right editorial choice given the seriousness and complexity of the subject matter.

You are absolutely right (Editorial, 16 April) to assert the need for urgent humanitarian and compassionate action by the European Union to address the causes and the effects of the appalling tragedy of the people who are fleeing Syria, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia and other north African countries.

Tech giants simply do not want to employ the numbers of humans that would be necessary to always be making the right editorial call on each and every piece of digital content.

A lot of corporate thought went into just how to employ this newly acquired cable-space, and there was much zigging and zagging over the right editorial direction to take.
