Flow of this variety has long been recognized in wide rift settings, like the Basin and Range, as well as under orogenic regions such as the Tibetan Plateau, and would be anticipated in warm rifts based on our understanding of the physical characteristics of major rock-forming minerals and the thermal structure of the lithosphere.
In this paper we investigate the 3D structure of these rift basins, based on field observations and the interpretation of seismic data.
Hilde and Lee (1984) proposed almost uniform cessation ages along the CBF rift; however, even based on such a two-phase spreading model, the cessation was earlier in the eastern part (Figure 3).

Our magnetic lineation identification between the boundaries of C21n/C20r and C19n/C18r 45.355 to 40.44 Ma) in the WPB south of the CBF rift is consistent with previous studies based on total-force anomalies (Louden1976; Shih1980; Mrozowski et al.1982; Hilde and Lee1984).
